Singing Round 249 – Poor Thing

I think this revision of the Mother Goose rhyme is incredibly powerful.  I wish I knew who wrote it.  It makes me think of homeless people and animals during the winter.  Then my thoughts drift toward anyone entering a period of hardship or mourning.

When I first sat down to write this melody, it was in major.  The round came off as flippant, sweet, and plagal.  Then, when I read over the lyrics, I thought it should be in minor– however harder to sing.

Stay warm!
